How to Use the Grip Strength Training Game

Overview

This game makes grip training fun by using a Flappy Bird-style game. You control a bird by squeezing a special grip device or pressing the 'A' key. The goal is to improve your grip strength and endurance over time!

Initial Setup

Before you start playing, we need to set the right difficulty for you. We'll calculate the training weights for strength (heavy, ~10 reps) and endurance (light, ~20 reps) modes for each hand.

  1. Choose your preferred mode - Hardware Mode (if you have a grip device) or Keyboard Mode.
  2. If using Hardware Mode, connect the device using the "Connect Hardware" button on the Game page.
  3. Enter your name (so the game can cheer you on by name!).
  4. For each hand, perform a quick test:
    • Strength test: Try a heavy resistance and count how many reps you can do. Enter that weight and rep count.
    • Endurance test: Use a lighter resistance and see how many reps you can do (aim for more than 10). Enter that weight and reps.

If you're not sure, you can guess or use a default (e.g., 3 lbs for endurance).

  5. Click "Calculate" to see the recommended training weights.
  6. If it looks good, click "Save & Start Training" to save and begin!

How to Play

Each day, the game will automatically switch between Strength and Endurance mode to train both aspects of your grip. It also alternates hands: you'll always do your right hand first, then left hand.

In the game, your bird needs to fly through gaps in pipes. To make the bird fly up, squeeze the grip (Hardware Mode) or press the A key (Keyboard Mode)! If you don't squeeze in time, the bird will fall or hit a pipe. You can also hold down the A key for a continuous boost effect to stay aloft longer!

Your goal in strength mode is to get 10 flaps (reps) without failing. In endurance mode, the goal is 20 flaps. If you reach the goal, the weight will increase a bit next time. If you can't, the weight will decrease slightly to help you succeed.

The game will show a countdown before each round and even say encouraging phrases like "Great job!" or "You got this!" to keep you motivated. Try your best to meet the goal reps!

After finishing with the right hand, take a short break, then you'll do the left hand. When both hands are done, you're finished for the day. Check the Logs page to see your progress over time on a nice chart!

Have fun and get stronger each day!
